The Institut des Sourds de Jarville is a specialised institution focused on welcoming, educating, and supporting deaf individuals or those with speech disorders, providing an environment tailored to their needs and personal development.

WORK

The project aims to create a collective mural artwork and renovate spaces using a home-staging approach. Deaf and hard-of-hearing youth and volunteers collaborate through artistic and hands-on activities accessible to everyone. Here, you can experiment, create, tinker, share your ideas, and see the tangible results of your work. Together, we transform the spaces Every contribution matters and leaves a visible mark of your creativity.During this workcamp, you will take part in designing and creating a collective mural over the course of a week. Guided by a street artist, you will explore a variety of artistic and hands-on techniques accessible to everyone, from sketching to mural painting. Its your turn to get creative: you can share your ideas, experiment, learn, and watch the project come to life before your eyes Afterwards, you will participate in small renovation and home-staging tasks to transform living spaces and make them more appealing. Cultural activities and local visits will also punctuate the stay, offering another way to discover the area. You will experience this project within a mixed team, alongside deaf youth, in a spirit of cooperation, sharing, and camaraderie.

ACCOMODATION AND FOOD

You will be accommodated less than 500 meters from the Institute, in La Maison de Vanduvre. Three areas will be reserved and private for the project: the womens room (without beds), the mens room (without beds), a common living area, and the sanitary facilities.Beyond working hours you will also take part in decision-making regarding group activities and daily organisationThis workcamp will be a unique intercultural and inclusive experience. You will work alongside deaf young people from the Institute. Communication will not always rely on spoken words, but this will be a great opportunity to discover sign language, explore new ways of connecting, and develop your creativity and open-mindedness. A truly meaningful human experience, rich in encounters and learning.

LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY

The Institut des Sourds of Jarville, established for several decades in Jarville-la-Malgrange near Nancy, supports young people who are deaf or have speech disorders to learn, explore, and thrive in a tailored environment while maintaining their autonomy. Through its collective and inclusive approach, the Institute promotes cooperation, solidarity, and engagement with the local community.

Our movement (Etudes et Chantiers) was created in 1962 by several Youth movements and follows the idea of non violence and humanism as well as international co operation and exchanges in the Education Populaire movement a French concept for non formal education. We are engaged in the fight against exclusion and in the world wide movement of international voluntary services (short term and long term like EVS) through partnerships with 120 organisations in 65 countries. UNAREC etudes ET chantiers is member of several international networks: CCIVS, the Alliance of European voluntary service organisations...

Our Union is composed by 5 regional associations, with a national secretariat in Paris. Each of them run permanent projects, and they work together on the workcamp programme which is co ordinated by the International Delegation in Clermont Ferrand. Each year we develop in France 50 international workcamps and 50 local inclusion work project, altogether we host 1500 person (volunteers, trainees, inclusion staff), led by over 150 permanent staff and managed by 50 executive board members (active volunteers).
