工作 / WORK

What is Permaculture? Permaculture is a sustainable farming approach that integrates agricultural ecosystems with natural processes. By applying 12 permaculture principles, we can restore the environment and empower communities for a resilient future. Why Nepal? Nepal’s agricultural sector supports 80% of the population, contributing nearly 39% of the GDP. However, farmers face challenges from climate change, including drying water sources, new pests, shifting crop cycles, and unpredictable weather. At this camp, volunteers will work directly with local farmers trained by Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) to address these challenges using sustainable practices. What you will do: • Farm Design: Plan and structure farms following permaculture principles. • Cultivate Crops: Engage in planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting. • Organic Composting: Assist in creating eco-friendly fertilizers. • Observe and Interact: Learn by doing and sharing knowledge with local farmers.

住宿和食物 / ACCOMODATION AND FOOD

The volunteers will stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN. The living facilities are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area with separate rooms. The volunteers sleep on simple beds/mattresses. Please bring your sleeping bag.

主辦單位 / Host organization

Volunteers Initiative Nepal

VIN is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious, not-for-profit organization which was founded in 2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other professionals. VIN’s mission is to empower marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children, through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic well-being and basic human rights. Community Focused Programmes VIN has a main community based pilot project in Jitpur, a rural community 11km from Kathmandu city. The area was chosen because of its geographical location, lack of development agencies, people interest, and its development needs. VIN has established 4 key programmes in Jitpur:  Women’s Empowerment  Children’s Development  Youth Development  Community Health The organization’s objective is for these programmes to be run by the Jitpur community (independently of VIN) by 2012. Our community volunteering projects are based on around above 4 major programmes. Out of Community Support Programmes VIN runs a number of other volunteer placement programmes not directly related to the Jitpur community but indirectly these programmes still contribute to our main programs. The programmes include:  Teaching English at Buddhist monasteries / nunneries  International journalism  Environment, conservation and agro forestry  Orphanage support  Working with disable people (e.g., deaf, elderly) http://www.volunteeringnepal.org
