合作夥伴 / PARTNER

This project is actively working for SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) since 2018 in this place. MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006. Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) was founded in 2011 to run the school providing education, cultural workshops, leisure activities and lunch to the children aged 6-18 who are not allowed to go to public schools due to the lack of citizenship. Many of them are refugees or immigrants from Myanmar, Indonesia, etc. while others have different backgrounds in their families such as poverty, drug addiction, child abuse, prostitution, etc. YCK operate in partnership with Ministry of Women and Child Welfare and got new rooms on the 3rd to 5th floors of the big building in 2025. The workcamps have been successful and in 2025, 59 vols. from Japan, Italy, Hong Kong and Spain joined 6 workcamps with creating great impact You may wonder if the volunteering for short term can be useful for their education and even worry if they feel too sad and tired to repeat hi and bye. But children have got greatly motivated to study by having international big sisters/ brothers as one of their role models and felt happiness and encouragement by having reliable adult friends since they had been terribly neglected by the society.

工作 / WORK

Volunteers will be spilt into some small groups and assist the teachers for their classes of smaller children in the morning. In the afternoon, they can play and organize cultural activities with the children in the big room all together (e.g., dancing, games). Or sometimes, joined the workshops (music, sports, etc.) organized for the children by other volunteer group. Volunteers may sometimes have occasions to have no activities (e.g., national holidays), but alternative work such as supporting homeless people may be organized.

住宿和食物 / ACCOMODATION AND FOOD

Volunteers will stay in 2-3 rooms of the school (female and male are separated) and have simple breakfast to be provided by MOVE, school lunch and dinner in the outside restaurant. Sleeping bag is necessary (mat is also recommended since the floor is hard). No AC and simple condition, but safe water is provided and local style bath/ fridge are available.

位置與休閒活動 / LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY

The school is located in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur (with the guard man for 24 hours). Other activities - Sightseeing around Kuala Lumpur city (cafE, night market, China town, shopping malls, etc.) in the evenings (but need to come back by 21:00), optional trip in the weekend to be organized and financed by the volunteers themselves.

要求 / REQUIREMENTS

Very high motivation and responsibility to work with the disadvantaged kids and to respect local culture/ way. Adaptable to the simple conditions such as hot climate without using AC in the night and sleeping on the hard floor. Good manner to keep the places clean and proper, sensitive behaviors especially to the children (the guidance will be done by YCK).
