  • The work camp is organized by Instituto Valenciano de la Juventud (IVAJ)and the Viver City Council. The City Council of Viver, since 2016, has been developing a research project, focused on the excavation, consolidation and enhancement, in the Roman site of El Prado.
  • The objective of the work camp will be the excavation and archaeological documentation of the Roman town of El Prado (Viver, Castellon), which has been partially excavated and which is immersed in a (first) action of valorization. The work camp aims to give a global vision of archeology, from its praxis to its function as a catalyst for tourism. This will be done, from work inherent in these excavation processes, such as cleaning and cataloging of recovered materials; until the cultural visits to sites and talks related to the archaeological discipline (legislation, periodization, virtual archeology...), ending with an example of putting value and exposing the results to the population that hosts it.
  • The volunteers are housed in the Escuela Hogar Building, located at Avenida de Diputacion 2, Viver 12460 (Castellon) at the entrance of the town, but at 150m. from the center. The accommodation has a kitchen and dining room, perfectly equipped. It has sufficient and complete furniture for the places available. It also has a washing machine service. There are classrooms for different uses for yoga or gymnastics, another with paddle chairs for meetings and a small office. There is also a room with sofas and chairs for resting, reading, six showers and Waters and 10 toilets. We have enough bedding for all the beds: sheets, blankets and bedspreads. On the fourth floor there is a small workshop and terrace to hang clothes.
  • Location description:The Roman town of El Prado is located 3 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Viver, in the Los Cabillos, and occupies an approximate area of 2,750 m2, on the left bank of the Huron ravine. It is a rustic villa of the high imperial period (between the first and third centuries AD), which is partially excavated, in which various rooms and dependencies typical of these sites have been documented.Leisure activities:Excursions and visits.Workshops and training and leisure activities, etc.Evening activities, group dynamics, sports activities, games,These activities will be coordinated by a team of entertainment professionals. It will be presented a plan of cultural and leisure, to be developed by volunteers during evenings and weekends which will complement the voluntary work

SVI is the Spanish association which represents the Spanish workcamps managed by the Autonomous Regions (except those in Catalonia). We are under the Institute of Youth (Injuve).

Injuve, an Autonomous Department of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality, has, for some years now, been promoting specific programmes which are aimed at increasing and favouring different travel possibilities for young people. This enables those under 30 years of age to become aware of other realities, visit other places and have access to other cultures.

Included among these programmes is one known as International Voluntary Service (SVI), which deals only with workcamps. These are aimed at youth between 18 and 26 years old and their main objectives are:

- To encourage conduct that will favour the exchange of ideas and young people’s global development. This is achieved by volunteering and from the contributions made by youth from their own experience. This strengthens intercultural learning processes, personal development and the reinforcement of democratic values.

- To integrate experiences, personal knowledge and the global development of youth in the carrying out of an activity, within the framework of voluntary service.
The Youth Institute co-ordinates the exchange of places for young Spaniards wanting to volunteer in foreign workcamps and foreigners wanting to volunteer in Spanish workcamps. The Spanish workcamps are managed by the Autonomous Regions.
