FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL
- Montendre is a lovely village in the sout-west of France, located in Charente-Maritime. Standing between vestiges of his medieval castel, this little area is a hub of business, administrative and touritic activities. The municipality welcomes, since 1993, the association Maison des Bateleurs-Solidarités Jeunesses and the welcome center. In 2001, the municipality created the « FREE Music Festival », an artistic event with contemporary music. This festival is a source of development and local dynamism, which contributes to the highlight of the municipality of Montendre and his rural territories. In the last few years, La Maison des Bateleurs’s volunteers have participated to the setting of the event’s carpark. This year, we would like to go further in the contribution of this key event. To create an international workcamp will bring an intercultural dimension to this artistic dynamic and intergenerational event. It will be the 19th edition, located in an unusual landscape : the Montendre Lake, from 21rst to 23rd of June 2019.
- You will work with others volunteers to the preparation and setting of the festival and accomodations (camp, food area/rest area/volunteers, etc). The work consists in arranging the park and making it more attractive. You will welcome the public and help the volunteers for the event’s logistic. During the festival, you will organize exchanges between festival-goers and volunteers, in the rest area and the camp, where activities for youngsters and adults will be proposed. Also, activities, games, sharing and “live together” will develop this intercultural experience. After the festival, you will help in cleaning and tiding the place with a friendly atmosphere !
- In tents, on the land of La Maison des Bateleurs, in Montendre. The food is included and everyday, someone in the group is chosen for cooking the meal.
- Location: Montendre, Charente-Maritime, from 75 km of Bordeaux. Leisure activities: Between some nice villages in the south of Saintonge, you will enjoy the local heritage. Aside from the work, you will take part to summer activities : music event, nightmarkets, producers visits or local products tasting. Visits in cities, like Bordeaux or Angoulême and day at the beach could be organized. Cognac and St Emilion, traditionnal cities of wine are very close !
Solidarites Jeunesses works alongside a number of partner organisations world-wide, exchanging volunteers and organising international solidarity projects. The association has been the French branch of Youth Action for Peace till 2009, a movement created after the First World War in order to reconcile people of different nationalities through a better mutual understanding.
National
Solidarites Jeunesses is a national youth organisation, recognised by the French Ministry of Youth and Sport. Our national headquarters are situated in Paris. We organise short and longer-term international youth volunteer workcamps and voluntary services, projects with people from disadvantaged areas, training sessions, and international solidarity projects. We also manage rural residential and community centres.
Regional
Solidaites Jeunesses is composed of 7 regional delegations: Ile-de-France, Franche-Comt�, Languedoc-Roussillon, PACA, Auvergne, Poitou-Charentes and Midi-Pyrenees. Moreover it cooperates with partners in the regions of Bretagne, Lorraine and with La Crois�e des Regards in the region PACA.
Workcamps
The international workcamp is a very important part in the action undertaken by Solidarites Jeunesses. It is prepared a long time in advance in the different regional offices and the National Secretariat.
The international workcamp, open to volunteers of any age, is seen as a tool of local and personal development, tolerance and understanding between the different participants. Furthermore, we lay emphasis on the inclusion of people coming from disadvantaged areas. The workcamps promote the active participation of the local population.
