  • The city of Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias has an extensive network of paths and trails with great tourist interest due to its environmental, ethnographic, and cultural values.Springs, water troughs, and ponds used to be customarily significant places for passers-by and wildlife. Therefore, one of the main purposes of the present project is recovering two places linked to water, a spring and a pond, both for use and enjoyment of neighbors and visitors, as well as to improve the biodiversity of the area.
  • Partner:The municipality of Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias is located north of Madrid Region, in the area of the Sierra Norte(Nothern Mountains) (they are just 66 km. north of Madrid, on the National I highway). Its surface area is around 52km2 and is located 1,028 m. height above sea level. It consists of three historical towns, which merged in 1973.Lozoyuela, the largest, is located in the center of the municipality, while Navas de Buitrago and Sieteiglesias arelocated to its west.Work:There are various approaches for collecting water and conditioning springs, but the simplest method will be implemented, which includes the following 5 steps:1- The first step includes cleaning, clearing vegetation, weeding, as well as leveling and filling the ground.2- The second step consists of collecting water networks in a water well or catchment container. A little further, a ditch will be dug for water collection, to prevent from contamination by contact with the last land layers as water gs through. Next, that ditch will be filled with rocks or large pebbles which will work as a water filter and will enhance water flowing.3- The third step includes completion of the outer construction at the extraction site so that the source ds not become a mud. 4- The fourth step involves the protection of the construction, the place and the catchment area.5- The town council should implement the necessary actions for following up and keeping the spring in good condition.

SVI is the Spanish association which represents the Spanish workcamps managed by the Autonomous Regions (except those in Catalonia). We are under the Institute of Youth (Injuve).

Injuve, an Autonomous Department of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality, has, for some years now, been promoting specific programmes which are aimed at increasing and favouring different travel possibilities for young people. This enables those under 30 years of age to become aware of other realities, visit other places and have access to other cultures.

Included among these programmes is one known as International Voluntary Service (SVI), which deals only with workcamps. These are aimed at youth between 18 and 26 years old and their main objectives are:

- To encourage conduct that will favour the exchange of ideas and young people’s global development. This is achieved by volunteering and from the contributions made by youth from their own experience. This strengthens intercultural learning processes, personal development and the reinforcement of democratic values.

- To integrate experiences, personal knowledge and the global development of youth in the carrying out of an activity, within the framework of voluntary service.
The Youth Institute co-ordinates the exchange of places for young Spaniards wanting to volunteer in foreign workcamps and foreigners wanting to volunteer in Spanish workcamps. The Spanish workcamps are managed by the Autonomous Regions.
