IN THE HEART OF THE EXCEPTIONAL SITE OF BERUGES
- Formerly called the Petite Suisse poitevine, the town of BEruges occupies a remarkable site overlooking the valley of the Boivre and has remains from prehistoric, Gallo-Roman and Merovingian times. A dynamic commune, values its archaeological and historical riches thanks to its archaeological museum testifying to the daily life of the past (ceramics, toiletries and jewelry, tools, and elements) and proposes paths of discovery: ancient roads, a monumental Gallo-Roman wall, and viewpoints. It is in this context that the town of BEruges wishes to renew its partnership with Maison des Bateleurs a euro SolidaritEs Jeunesses, in order to host an international youth work camp with the aim of continuing the renovation of Maison Bourdin, which destined to become a place of value for the communities heritage.
- Supervised by a technical expert specialized in stone cutting as well as the delegate for the safeguarding and enhancement of the heritage of the town, you will work on the restoration of the house of Bourdin. Specifically on the walls surrounding the houses garden which face the archaeological garden. You will perform traditional masonry work: dejointing, joining with lime mortar and traditional stone cutting.
- Staying in tents in the garden of the former presbytery in the heart of the town. Food will be provided for you to prepare meals in turns.
- Location: BEruges, Vienne department, 12 km from Poitiers. Leisure Activities: The volunteers of the association of the Friends of BEruges and the inhabitants will accompany you in discovering the towns historical and archaeological richness as well as its surroundings which are full of ancient and troglodyte sites. Outings will be organized based on the local youths normal activities (cinema, shows, outdoor activities, etc.) During leisure time, you will participate in local festivities, night markets, and also visit major cities like La Rochelle or Poitiers and discover the theme park of Futuroscope.
Solidarites Jeunesses works alongside a number of partner organisations world-wide, exchanging volunteers and organising international solidarity projects. The association has been the French branch of Youth Action for Peace till 2009, a movement created after the First World War in order to reconcile people of different nationalities through a better mutual understanding. National Solidarites Jeunesses is a national youth organisation, recognised by the French Ministry of Youth and Sport. Our national headquarters are situated in Paris. We organise short and longer-term international youth volunteer workcamps and voluntary services, projects with people from disadvantaged areas, training sessions, and international solidarity projects. We also manage rural residential and community centres. Regional Solidaites Jeunesses is composed of 7 regional delegations: Ile-de-France, Franche-Comtï¿½, Languedoc-Roussillon, PACA, Auvergne, Poitou-Charentes and Midi-Pyrenees. Moreover it cooperates with partners in the regions of Bretagne, Lorraine and with La Croisï¿½e des Regards in the region PACA. Workcamps The international workcamp is a very important part in the action undertaken by Solidarites Jeunesses. It is prepared a long time in advance in the different regional offices and the National Secretariat. The international workcamp, open to volunteers of any age, is seen as a tool of local and personal development, tolerance and understanding between the different participants. Furthermore, we lay emphasis on the inclusion of people coming from disadvantaged areas. The workcamps promote the active participation of the local population.
